Engagement Session at Daniel Stowe Conservancy, Belmont NC

One of my favorite parts of the wedding experience is photographing engagement sessions. While they certainly create beautiful images for save-the-dates, wedding websites, and home décor, they also serve a bigger purpose… engagement sessions give couples an opportunity to become comfortable in front of the camera, learn how I guide and photograph them, and build confidence before their wedding. By the time the wedding arrives, posing and interacting naturally in front of the camera feels effortless, allowing us to easily creating stunning images while enjoying the celebration.

This May, I had the pleasure of photographing an engagement session at the beautiful Daniel Stowe Conservancy. Located just outside Charlotte, the conservancy offers a remarkable variety of backdrops that make it one of my favorite locations for engagement portraits.

Walking the Gardens and Greenhouse

We began our session in the White Garden, where elegant blooms and manicured pathways created a timeless setting for portraits. From there, we explored the property's picturesque arbors. The architectural lines and lush greenery framed the couple beautifully while adding dimension to the photographs. One of the highlights of the session was spending time inside the stunning greenhouse. Filled with tropical plants and dramatic textures, the greenhouse offered an entirely different atmosphere from the gardens outside. The variety of settings throughout Daniel Stowe Conservancy allowed us to create a collection of images that feels diverse while remaining cohesive and true to the couple's personality.

Looking forward to the Cathedral of St. Patrick and Palisades Country Club

As much as I enjoyed photographing this engagement session, I'm even more excited for their wedding this October at Charlotte's The Cathedral of Saint Patrick in Dilworth. Construction of Saint Patrick Church began in 1938 under the direction of Frank Frimmer, an Austrian craftsman known for remodeling renowned Old World churches. As Charlotte's Catholic population grew in the decades that followed, new parishes were established from Saint Patrick's congregation, and in 1972 Pope Paul VI designated Saint Patrick as the Cathedral for the Diocese of Charlotte.

Following their ceremony, we'll continue the celebration at The Palisades Country Club overlooking Lake Norman, where family and friends will gather for an unforgettable reception. The combination of a historic cathedral ceremony and an elegant country club reception promises a wedding day filled with meaningful moments, beautiful scenery, and timeless photographs.
