A Lake Norman Wedding at Trump National Golf Club Charlotte
As a Charlotte wedding photographer, there’s something different about returning to a wedding venue after spending time with a couple there before their wedding day. I had already photographed Bekah and Alex's engagement photos, rehearsal dinner and welcome party, at Trump National Golf Club Charlotte. So on their wedding day, I was excited to photograph not only the couple, but also the families and friends I had come to know throughout their wedding journey.
Trump National Golf Club Charlotte is a private club on Lake Norman, and proved to be a stunning waterfront setting and beautiful backdrop for every part of the wedding celebration.
A First Look on the Lake Norman Waterfront
The wedding day began at the family home on Lake Norman, where bride and groom got ready surrounded by the people closest to them. One of the most memorable moments of the day was their first look, which took place on a beautiful white pier overlooking the lake.
With the water stretching out behind them, Bekah and Alex saw each other for the first time on their wedding day. We continued with bride and groom portraits along the shore, taking advantage of the relaxed waterfront setting before heading to Trump National for the ceremony.
A Lakeside Wedding Ceremony at Trump National
The wedding party relocated to Trump National Golf Club Charlotte for a ceremony on the Function Lawn, with Lake Norman providing a spectacular backdrop.
The lakeside setting felt elegant and timeless while still capturing the natural beauty that makes a Lake Norman wedding so special. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour along the waterfront, complete with parasols that added another thoughtful and beautiful detail to the celebration.
A New Orleans-Style Parade to the Ballroom
One of my favorite moments came after cocktail hour. The entire wedding party and guests were led down the boardwalk toward the Ballroom by a New Orleans-style trumpeter and saxophonist.
It was such a fun transition from the outdoor celebration into the reception. The music and excitement brought everyone together as the celebration continued inside the Ballroom at Trump National. It was one of those wedding moments that perfectly reflected the joy of having everyone together for such an important occasion.
The entire wedding was thoughtfully managed by Nieves Martino's Events On The Lake, a Lake Norman wedding planning team whose attention to detail helped the day flow beautifully from beginning to end.
Photographing the Wedding on Film and Digital
Throughout the wedding day, I photographed with Kodak Ektacolor Pro 400 film for its beautiful rendition of skin, fine grain, and true-to-life color. Film is a natural fit for a waterfront wedding full of sunlight and elegant details.
Alongside film, I also used digital cameras to document the day comprehensively. The digital images were processed to align with the film photography, creating a gallery where the two formats work beautifully together.
My approach allows couples to receive the dependable coverage and versatility of digital photography alongside the distinctive character and natural beauty of film. For Bekah and Alex's wedding, that combination was a perfect match for the elegant lakeside atmosphere and the joyful celebration surrounding them.
A Wedding Weekend Worth Remembering
It was an honor to photograph this celebration for Bekah and Alex and for the families and friends I had gotten to know along the way. Their wedding at Trump National Golf Club Charlotte was a beautiful reminder of why I love photographing weddings: the opportunity to document not just a single day, but the relationships, emotions, and moments that bring everyone together to celebrate something truly meaningful.
